regulationMORE OPPORTUNITIES

At its heart, the American Dream is the idea that we all have the freedom to pursue personal fulfillment and achieve personal success. For many in Mississippi, that dream seems very far away.

Every day, unnecessary regulations are stifling opportunities for Mississippians to start and grow businesses. This same regulatory environment is protecting the well-established and politically connected. It’s time to free our people to be innovators and stop impeding the free market.

EMBRACE THE FREE MARKET.

THERE IS NO ECONOMIC SYSTEM THAT HAS GENERATED MORE PROSPERITY AND LIFTED MORE PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY THAN THE FREE MARKET. MILLIONS OF CITIZENS BUYING AND SELLING IN A FREE MARKET ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE A BETTER INDICATOR OF DEMAND AND VALUE THAN EVEN THE MOST BRILLIANT GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRATS.

THIS LEADS TO RESOURCES BEING USED MORE EFFICIENTLY. GOOD IDEAS SUCCEED. BAD IDEAS FAIL. THE ECONOMY GROWS. THE DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMIC POLICY SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON ALLOWING PEOPLE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEMSELVES IN HOW BEST TO SPEND THEIR MONEY.

FEWER REGULATIONS.

BURDENSOME REGULATIONS IMPEDE THE FREE MARKET AND SLOW GROWTH. HEAVY REGULATION MEANS MORE RESOURCES GET PUT INTO COMPLIANCE THAN IN JOB CREATION AND DEVELOPMENT. IT ALSO MEANS THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES YOU BUY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE.

REGULATION CAN ALSO BE A BARRIER TO ENTRY FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS. IN MANY INSTANCES, OCCUPATIONAL LICENSES WITH UNREALISTIC REQUIREMENTS PREVENT MANY, PARTICULARLY THE POOR, FROM BECOMING ENTREPRENEURS.

LESS FAVORITISM.

IT’S NOT THE JOB OF GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT EXISTING BUSINESSES FROM COMPETITION. COMPETITION IS A GOOD THING FOR OUR CITIZENS AND OUR ECONOMY. IT GIVES CITIZENS MORE CHOICES AND PROVIDES AN INCENTIVE FOR BUSINESSES TO ADAPT AND INNOVATE.

WHEN THE GOVERNMENT PREVENTS REAL COMPETITION BY GIVING ONE BUSINESS OR INDUSTRY BENEFITS THAT OTHER BUSINESSES DON’T HAVE, MISSISSIPPIANS LOSE.
